Planning to return to the Historic District later in the day? It’s helpful to know the Goetchius House also serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, along with lunch and dinner on select days. Although Allen Levi’s novel never mentions anywhere specific Theo and his friends go for lunch, we’d love to recommend the following Columbus staples to you for your consideration as you explore the city. If you’re taking our self-guided Theo-themed tour, any of these would make a perfect addition to the itinerary as you search for fountains or return from the RiverWalk. Then, after lunch, you can easily make your way back to the route and continue exploring the tour.

Animal Farm

Animal Farm is the kind of restaurant that’s thoughtful without being pretentious - — just like Theo. This restaurant fits the spirit of slowing down and appreciating the craftsmanship behind making a high-quality meal. For lunch at Animal Farm, we always recommend sharing a few of their small plates like the pigs in a blanket or the deviled eggs. For your entree, consider ordering one of the chef’s seasonal sandwiches or salads. If you’re extra hungry, get the Harlot Burger. It’s famous for good reason and will leave you eager to enjoy again someday.

It’s helpful to know Animal Farm also serves dinner and is a popular hotspot for celebrating special occasions. If you’re planning to try their dinner menu, reservations are highly recommended. The same can also be said for their sister restaurant Gabagool which serves high-quality Italian food and inventive seasonal cocktails.

Bodega 1205

This veteran-owned neighborhood favorite is known for its welcoming atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and genuine hospitality—qualities that feel right at home alongside the predominant themes of Allen Levi's beloved novel.

With a cuisine that’s a riff on Latin-American themes, Bodega’s menu offers something for every appetite.
