With more than a dozen themed excursions, guests and families can find an interesting and immersive experience aboard the Historic SAM Shortline Railroad. The Savannah, Americus & Montgomery (SAM) Railway helped spark the second railroad boom for Americus, Georgia, in the 1880s. Riding one of the round‑trip excursions along the SAM Railroad’s 265‑mile stretch invites guests to step into a piece of Georgia’s history. Each car on the SAM Railroad Excursions has its own unique story.
Themed excursions are scheduled most months throughout the year. Curious guests can try to solve the case on the Murder Mystery Dinner Train. Romantics may enjoy the Valentine’s Dinner Train or the Wine and Cheese Train. Families with young children can spend a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine. Historic excursions such as the Presidential Flyer and the Sumter Explorer follow in the footsteps of former President Jimmy Carter. Seasonal trips featuring local festivals and holiday trains are also available.
Excursions board from either Jackson Street Train Station in Americus, or the depot at Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele, Georgia. Locations, start times, and durations for each excursion vary by trip. Visit the Historic SAM Shortline Railroad website to view the calendar, learn more about its history, and book tickets for an upcoming excursion.
