Columbus State University celebrates the life and legacy of Carson McCullers, one of the South’s most influential literary voices and a native of Columbus, Georgia. Visitors can explore her story at the historic Smith‑McCullers House, her childhood home, which now serves as a museum and artist residency. The site offers an inspiring glimpse into McCullers’s early life and creative journey while also supporting fellowships for writers, artists, musicians, scholars, and filmmakers.

Through exhibitions, programs, and creative residencies, CSU helps position Columbus as a destination for literary, artistic, and cultural exploration—inviting visitors to connect with the enduring impact of McCullers’s work and the creative spirit it continues to inspire.

House tours are available any day of the week by appointment only. To schedule a tour, contact the center via email or phone 24-48 hours prior to your desired tour date. Calls will be returned during regular business hours.
