Georgia’s Camera Ready program connects film and TV productions with skilled county liaisons throughout the state to provide local expertise and support. The Georgia Governor’s office launched the Camera Ready Communities program in 2010 to train and certify Georgia counties to work effectively with production companies and provide local, one-on-one assistance in every aspect of production, from location scouting and film permits to traffic control, catering and lodging, and more. The Georgia Film Office actively fields inquiries and assists in making those points of contact and relationships work between the industry and the communities.

Columbus, one of the first Camera Ready Communities in 2010, realized the importance and economic impact film and television could bring to the city and surrounding area. The certification was presented to Columbus by Governor Nathan Deal in 2010 as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster Georgia’s growing film and television industry. With this certification, VisitColumbusGA and its Film Office  acts as the Camera Ready liaison, meaning it is a primary point of contact when production crews, film scouts, and the Georgia Film Office are considering locations, venues, and destinations for filming.

Columbus Film Commissioner Joel Slocumb works closely to provide and facilitate the benefits a Camera Ready Community offers to productions. Some of those benefits include: access to the Georgia Film & TV Sourcebook, the Help Wanted Hotline, information on Georgia Film and TV Facts, a list of available Locations, assistance with Film Permits, and a place to share Film and TV Casting/Crew Jobs, etc.
