COLUMBUS, GA – the Columbus Civic Center, in collaboration with the Columbus Film Commission and the Springer Opera House, is proud to announce the launch of Movies Under the Stars, a unique outdoor film series dedicated to celebrating and supporting local filmmakers and the creative community throughout the Chattahoochee Valley region.
Hosted at the Columbus Civic Center Amphitheatre, Movie Under the Stars will provide audiences with an unforgettable outdoor cinema experience while showcasing the incredible talent of filmmakers with ties to Columbus and surrounding communities. A portion of the proceeds from each event will directly support local filmmaking initiatives and emerging creators.
Guests will enjoy an immersive evening experience featuring food trucks, photo opportunities, networking opportunities for creators, and special filmmaker appearances before each screening. Gates will open at 8:00 pm, with films beginning at sunset. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets as they enjoy films presented on the Civic Center’s large outdoor screen.
Each event will feature a special introduction and short Q&A session with the film director, giving audience a behind-the-scenes look into the filmmaking process.

Friday, July 24 – “Talent Show” by Zack Lee
The inaugural Movies Under the Stars event will feature Talent Show, directed by Columbus filmmaker Zack Lee. The film explores the rich history and cultural significance of notable talent shows throughout Columbus, Georgia, highlighting the performers, organizers, and community members who helped shape the city’s entertainment landscape.
In addition to the screening, guests will enjoy a special live performance by Kaution, one of the featured groups highlighted in the film.
Saturday, August 1 – “Southern Scares” by Paul Rowe
The second installment of the series will showcase Southern Scares, directed by filmmaker Paul Rowe. The horror film was shot at several locations throughout the Columbus area, including the historic Springer Opera House, providing audiences with a thrilling cinematic experience while spotlighting the region’s potential as a destination for film production.
