President/CEO of VisitColumbusGA, Peter Bowden, Once Again Recognized in Georgia Trend’s Georgia 500

 

Columbus, GA—Nov 6, 2023:  Georgia Trend recently released the recipients awarded as part of the Georgia 500 initiative and among those named is Peter Bowden, President/CEO of VisitColumbusGA.  Georgia 500 is a comprehensive list of local leaders driving the state’s economy to new heights.  This is a network of economic development leaders who focus on retention, job recruitment, and workforce development, resulting in Georgia consistently being named one of the top states to do business in for nearly a decade.

 

Bowden has been with VisitColumbusGA since July 1995. Originally hired as VisitColumbus’s Olympic Coordinator, he was re-assigned as Deputy Director shortly afterwards where he oversaw numerous marketing and sales activities until he was appointed President-CEO in May 2003.

 

He oversees the destination marketing efforts for Columbus with an emphasis on promoting conventions, trade shows, and tourism.

Prior to coming to the VisitColumbusGA, he worked in broadcasting and as a freelance consultant. Bowden’s background includes public relations, management, marketing, advertising, and communication.

He has served on several boards to include the Columbus Cultural Arts Alliance, Past President of the Presidential Pathways Travel Association, Past President of the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus, At-large member of the Tourism Development Alliance, Southeastern Tourism Society Advisory Board, GA Dept of Economic Development’s Tourism Advisory Board, and others.
 

Under Mr. Bowden’s leadership, tourism has become a major economic development resource in Columbus’ economy tracking 1.9 million visitors in FY ’23, with visitor spending of $381 million.  This resulted in more than 4,600 jobs supported and a tax savings per household of $639.
