Performances to Highlight Eating Disorders

 

 Columbus, GA—2.15.2016:  Two courageous Columbus teens are sharing the story of their own battles with eating disorders and encouraging others by kicking off National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (Feb. 21-27) with a night of original works by community members.

 

 Kindred Kindness Community Presentation is free and will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Springer’s Foley Hall. Actors will perform an evening of original pieces about eating disorders and their underlying causes. Audience members will have the chance to speak to professionals in the field. The goal is to create awareness of eating disorders and the healing power of kindness in Columbus.

 

 Bekah Wommack and Elim Lee are the first recipients of the Ron Anderson Kindness Grant, which will be given annually to current students of the Springer Theatre Academy.

 

 Wommack and Lee used the grant to found Kindred Kindness to raise awareness of eating disorders and of self compassion. They said the performances will be focused on “light in darkness, of overcoming and working through difficult times.”

 

 The original performances at the Kindred Kindness Community Presentation will feature a performance by Ashton Powers, an Atlanta-based model.

 

 Although Kindred Kindness Community Presentation is free, donations for the National Eating Disorder Association will be accepted.

 

 Kindred Kindness is working to develop its social media presence to promote self-kindness and kindness to others. Their target audience is primarily teenagers and the college-aged.
