Columbus, Georgia – December 3, 2015: Get a glimpse into what the holidays were like during World War II as the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center celebrates Holidays on the Home Front this December.
On Saturday, December 5, living historians Kelly’s Zeroes will be back to put museum visitors through a civilian version of boot camp on the museum’s World War II Company Street. Inside the museum, in Patriot Hall, they’ll display some of the appliances you’d find in a 1940s era home. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, December 6, Kelly’s Zeroes will recreate a Pearl Harbor Day church service in the chapel on World War II Company Street. 10 a.m.
On Saturday, December 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., there’ll be a Holidays on the Home Front Mini Camp for kids 5-11. Make crafts, tour the museum, and learn how children celebrated the holidays while the nation was at war. $10 per camper. Call 706-685-5814 to register.
On Saturday, December 19 at 9 a.m., enjoy a light breakfast with a vintage Santa Claus in the Mess Hall on World War II Company Street. Bring your camera for pictures with the jolly old elf. $10 for children up to age 12; $5 for adults. Call 706-685-5814 to reserve space before December 16.
Families will also enjoy seeing films in the newly renovated Giant Screen Theater. The Polar Express 3D will be shown December 5-24, and there’ll be special pajama parties where kids can make crafts with Muscogee Moms before the movies at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
