Historic Goetchius House Welcomes the Future: Grand Opening of 405 Café and Bakery by The Painted Gypsy
Columbus, GA – November 12, 2025. A delicious new chapter is rising at The Goetchius House, the iconic property built in 1839 in The Historic District. The beloved landmark proudly announces the Grand Opening of 405 Café and Bakery bringing scratch-made goodness, local flavors, and small-town charm together under one historic roof in the lower level.
Baked fresh daily, the new bakery and café features artisan breads, pastries, cookies and cakes along with gourmet coffee and espresso alongside farm-to-table favorites and a full cafe menu. This is all inspired by the restaurant’s rich heritage and community spirit. Visitors can start their day with homemade flaky croissants, scones or biscuits, and locally roasted coffee, then wander through the on-site Farmers Market showcasing artisanal products, produce and goods.
“We’re blending two centuries of tradition with a fresh, vibrant energy,” said Matthew, co-owner of the Goetchius House with his wife Renta Martoni. “Our guests will be able to enjoy the same warm hospitality and farm fresh flavors they have grown to love, and now with the scent of fresh baked bread in the air… it feels like home”, Renata continues.
“This is the natural evolution of my bakery and catering business. It allows me the freedom to continue what I love to do with a team that shares the same vision”, states Kate Williams aka The Painted Gypsy who operated The Old School Kitchen since 2017 in Columbus and beyond.
The Grand Opening Week will take place Thursday, November 13 to Sunday, November 16 from 9 am to 2 pm. Ribbon cutting ceremony is Saturday, November 15 at 9 am, and will also feature our ongoing farmers market, tastings and family friendly activities. Guests are invited to explore the new bakery and café, meet local farmers and artisans, and experience firsthand how history and community continue to thrive together.
Located in the heart of the Historic District, The Goetchius House, has long been a favorite gathering place for travelers, locals, and history lovers alike. With this new expansion, the restaurant reaffirms its commitment to fresh, local ingredients and to keeping the spirit of its 200-year legacy alive for generations to come.
