Columbus, GA – November 21, 2025. In a dazzling display of heart, humor, and pure teenage tenacity, a group of extraordinary high school students transformed The Goetchius House into the most inspiring Cabaret this side of Broadway in honor of their beloved friend, Lexy McRae, whose vibrant spirit continues to shine brighter than the stage lights she inspired. This fearless crew of students isn’t just put on a show, oh no, they engineered an evening of music, dance, storytelling, and joy that would make even the most seasoned performers raise an eyebrow and whisper, “Wow… kids these days!”
Fueled by courage, friendship and purpose, the students created the Cabaret for Lexy, an imaginative, entertaining, and wonderfully unpredictable performance celebrating Lexy’s love of creativity and community. The event raised funds for the Rally Foundation, supporting childhood cancer research and offering real hope to families across the nation.
“Lexy had a spark that could light up any room,” said a student organizer. “We wanted to build something she would be proud of—so naturally, we chose a cabaret full of glitter, heart, laughter, and a mild disregard for stage directions.”
The historic Goetchius House, known for memorable moments and occasionally haunted chandeliers (jury’s still out), provides the perfect backdrop for this dinner theater performance love and levity. Guests enjoyed everything from heartfelt ballads to comedic sketches, energetic dance numbers. During a rehearsal, a guest said “Wait… is that supposed to be happening?”, which is, of course, the true hallmark of great theater.
A portion of the funds raised from the performance will support the Rally Foundation’s mission to find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects, helping ensure that no family fights childhood cancer alone.
“This event is a tribute, not of sorrow, but of courage, creativity, and joy,” said Matthew Lapides from The Goetchius House. “These students showed what happens when young people channel their grief into something powerful, beautiful, and downright entertaining.” The Cabaret for Lexy isn’t just a show. It’s a reminder that love takes many shapes: friendship, art, activism, and occasionally a dancing number that no one rehearsed but worked anyway.
About Lexy McRae
Alexis Jaine McRae was such a bright light in Columbus, GA and this world. It’s very rare that you find someone who can bring joy to a room simply by walking in. Both onstage and offstage, this girl shined so brightly. Her immense passion for theater, dance, and every other aspect of life was one of the many factors that made her who she was. She was also a loving daughter, sister, and friend. Despite her battles with cancer, she still put in the effort to make everyone around her feel special and valued. Her spunk, kindness, and radiating energy left such an impact on everyone she encountered. Her legacy lives on and therefore her light will never truly go out.
