Columbus Symphony Orchestra Presents Their First Ever Mozart Festival

COLUMBUS, GA, December 17, 2015 - The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is pleased to announce its first ever Mozart Festival. The festival will consist of two concerts in Bill Heard Theatre, one Champagne and Dessert Concert in Legacy Hall, two Noteworthy Parties, and one special Symphony U.

The first concert on January 7th at 6:30 pm will feature cellist Wendy Warner and will be accompanied by a pre-concert talk, Know The Score, with Maestro George Del Gobbo at 6:30pm. On January 12th the CSO presents a Champagne & Dessert concert featuring violinist Sergiu Schwartz. The final concert in the Mozart Festival Series will be held on January 16th at 7:30pm with pianist Alexander Kobrin, this concert will include Know The Score at 6:30pm.

CSO Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo commented, “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in January of 1756.  January 2016 marks his 260th birthday, and the CSO is celebrating by presenting a three-concert festival of his works. From serenades to concertos to symphonies, we’ve got it all.  And because we are calling our festival "Mozart & Friends" we are including a cello concerto by Haydn and a chamber symphony by Shostakovich.  Solo appearances by our colleagues cellist Wendy Warner, violinist Sergiu Schwartz, and pianist Alexander Kobrin are the cherry on the sundae.  Music by one of the greatest composers ever performed by world artists----you don't want to miss this.”

A special Symphony U will kick off the Mozart festival on January 5th. This class will be a quick survey of the life and music of the great musical genius. What makes Mozart, Mozart? Find out at Symphony U! Tickets are $15, to make reservations call 706.256.3640.

Two Noteworthy Parties will be held as part of the Mozart Festial. These entertaining and exciting parties serve as both a gatherings for friends and a fundraising event to benefit the CSO. For more information on party details and reservations, visit csoga.org/noteworthy/.

The CSO Mozart Festival is presented by TSYS as well as Southern Views Magazine, and Sunny100.

To accompany the Mozart Festival, the CSO will be partnering with local downtown businesses to put on their own version of a German Volksmarch. All are welcome to participate in the event. A Volksmarch punch card can be picked up at the RiverCenter to be used at businesses partnering with the CSO. Each location will feature a special Mozart Festival item. Patrons can cross off items on their punch card by visiting a business or attending a CSO event from January 5th through the 16th. Participants who return their card will be entered to win the following prizes: Garden & Gun tickets, a $250 CSO gift-card, or a post-concert dinner with CSO Maestro and special guest artist.

Tickets are $5 to $36 and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway side under covered drive to visit the box office). Student tickets are available for $10. Tickets for children under 12 years of age are $5. For more information call the CSO office at 706.323.5059 or visit us online at www.csoga.org.

S’MORES – (Final Dress Rehearsal) for this concert is on Saturday January 16, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. We encourage attendance from members of the community who are unable to attend the concert or are looking to experience the orchestra. For the first time, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members will set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and expose people who have not had the capabilities to partake in the music being created by the CSO. For more information visit csoga.org or call (706) 256-3645.

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1855, is the second orchestra founded in the nation and the first founded in Georgia. The CSO’s performance venue at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, Bill Heard Theatre, seats 2,000 patrons and provides a state-of-the-art visual and acoustic experience.
