2015 HOLIDAY PRESS RELEASE from Phenix City Parks and Recreation

 

 

Nov. 6- ARTS and CRAFTS FAIR- 10: 00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Come join in the fun as The Seniors of The Central Activity Center host an ARTS and CRAFTS FAIR in the beautiful auditorium of The Central Activity Center located at 1500 14th Street in Phenix City. This event will include homemade items such as quilts, purses, jewelry, wooden items, jellies and jams. They will also have live entertainment featuring David Tyler and a hot dog lunch provided by Regional Rehab and The City of Phenix City. Nov. 6- FIRST FRIDAY FOOD TRUCK FUN NIGHT located in the parking lot of The Chattahoochee Brewing Company on 13th Street in Phenix City on the banks of the beautiful Chattahoochee River. Gourmet food trucks will be on site for your favorite foods and DJ Sam will provide music for everyone and we will also have some fun activities for little ones. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets for the homeless that will be later distributed by The Lazarus Society of Phenix City. Nov. 14- The Tri-City VETERANS PARADE – Veterans are very special people who deserve to be recognized everyday, but especially on Veterans Day. We will be hosting a parade in honor of Veterans and their families at 10:00 a.m. The parade route will begin on Colin Powell Parkway in Phenix City, come down Broad Street, turn onto 13th Street Bridge into Columbus Ga, go down Broad Street and end at the corner of Broad and 9th Street. ALL VETERANS are encouraged to participate. The parade will feature military vehicles, privately owned vehicles, floats, bands, marching units and much more. Onlookers are encouraged to wave flags, hold up signs and tell the Veterans as they pass by how much they are appreciated. Please call Rebecca Harris at 3334-291-4719 for more information.

Dec. 3- You are invited to join us for The CHRISTMAS and FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA at The Phenix City Amphitheater located on the banks of the beautiful Chattahoochee River at 7:00 p.m. eastern time. This very special holiday event will include a beautiful stage production hosted by The Queen of Christmas with special guests Mr. and Mrs. Claus and performances from The Elite Dance Academy. The Central High School Red Devils Marching Band will perform during a fabulous fireworks display over The Chattahoochee River. Admission is free and includes FREE hot chocolate for our little guests to enjoy during the show. After the show, enjoy the Christmas lights on Broad Street with your family and friends. Dec. 5- The Bi City Christmas Parade is to be held on Saturday December 5th at 10:00 a.m. The parade route begins on Colin Powell Parkway in Phenix City, then down Broad Street, goes over the 13th Street Bridge into Columbus and ends on the corner of Broadway and 9th Street. Come early and find a great spectator spot for you and your family to enjoy seeing marching bands, commercial floats, homemade floats, motorcycles, clowns, horses and much more. Parade applications can be found online at The Columbus and Phenix City Parks and Recreation websites. Dec. 10- CHRISTMAS AT MOON LAKE- Join us for a spectacular evening of fun for the whole family at Moon Lake Park which is located on Airport Road off Summerville Road and is part of the beautiful historic Idle Hour Park. Each year, The Parks and Recreation Department, local businesses, churches, schools and civic organizations decorate around Moon Lake for the holidays. The decorations stay lit until January 1. The OPENING NIGHT CARNIVAL will be on Thursday December 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We will have carnival rides, train rides, a hay ride, live entertainment from local churches and school groups, various activities sponsored by local businesses and school groups, a puppet show from HEATH AND THE CHECKER SHOE BAND and a fabulous food court. Admission is free but some activities will require a small fee. A shuttle will be available to bring our guests to the park from the parking lots of Garrett-Harrison Stadium and Idle Hour Sports Complex to Moon Lake. Dec.12 - BREAKFAST WITH SANTA? You heard right. Santa will be taking time out of his busy schedule to have breakfast with his special guests at The Central Activity Center located at 1500 14th Street in downtown Phenix City Alabama. This special event will begin with a puppet show from HEATH & THE CHECKER SHOE BAND, breakfast and a visit with Santa. Parents are allowed to take pictures with or we will have a professional photographer available to take pictures of this special visit with Santa. Cost for the breakfast is $2.00 per person. Reservations are required as seating is limited. Please call the Central Activity Center at 334-291-4743 after November 12 for reservations.
