Columbus, Georgia – December 3, 2015: Pick out your favorite pajamas – it’s time again to board The Polar Express for your annual journey to the North Pole!
Attending the holiday classic has become a tradition for area families since the museum opened six years ago. But this year the experience will be even brighter and more vivid, thanks to the theater’s new state-of-the-art digital laser projection system – the only one in the southeast.
There will be nearly two dozen screenings of The Polar Express 3D, starting Saturday, December 5, 2015, and continuing through Christmas Eve. Check www.nationalinfantrymuseum.org for show times.
The movie’s famous real-life Conductor will be back to punch Golden Tickets for the kids, but only at select screenings. Our dear friend, docent, and Polar Express Conductor – Owen Ditchfield – is undergoing chemotherapy and won’t be able to join us this year. But we’re happy to announce that filling at least some of the slots will be the Springer Opera House’s Ron Anderson, another well-loved member of our community who has fought cancer himself. Fortunately, Ron is doing much better, and we’ll look for Owen to enjoy the same recovery before next year’s pajama parties roll around. You might recognize one more face in the Conductor suit this month: Jim Talley, who supervises the museum on weekends, will also attend some of the screenings as the Conductor. On Saturday, December 12, the screenings of The Polar Express 3D will be paired with special pajama parties sponsored by Muscogee Moms. Kids should arrive at least 45 minutes before the 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. showings to make holiday crafts, get their initials punched in their Golden Tickets by the Conductor, visit with Santa Claus, and leave notes of support to Soldiers on our Freedom Tree. The renovated concessions stand will be open for hot chocolate and snacks.
Tickets for The Polar Express 3D are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors/students/military, and $8 for children 4-12.
