Columbus, GA-December 8, 2016: The acclaimed organist Christopher Houlihan makes his first appearance with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra on January 28, 2017 at 7:30 pm, performing in Legacy Hall at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts (900 Broadway, Columbus, Georgia). Christopher Houlihan performs Poulenc's Concerto for Organ, Strings, and Timpani in G minor, as well as Saint-Saëns' iconic Symphony No. 3, "Organ Symphony". Tickets are $35 for general admission.
Critics have applauded Christopher Houlihan for his "world class chops" and "marvelous ear"; The Los Angeles Times proclaimed him dazzling and seductive. Houlihan's Disney Hall debut, performing with principal brass of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, resulted in The LA Times claiming, "Houlihan is the next big organ talent." Houlihan's "Vierne 2012" tour attracted international attention and critical acclaim for his marathon performances of the six organ symphonies of Louis Vierne in six major North American cities.
In Spring 2017, Houlihan releases an all-Bach CD on the Azica label. Recent concert highlights include debuts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, presented by the National Symphony Orchestra, and at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, presented by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The second oldest orchestra in the U.S., the Columbus Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1855 by Mendelssohn's student, Herman S. Saroni. Today the orchestra performs at the RiverCenter for Performing Arts, the home of the $1,000,000 G. Gunby Jordan Memorial Pipe Organ. "The Jordan concert organ is one of the best examples of a modern organ," says Christopher Houlihan. "It has made Columbus, Georgia a destination for organ music."
