Historic Columbus Announces Grant Finalists!

 

Columbus, GA--The finalists of the Public Participation Grant, Historic Columbus largest grant program, will be announced on Thursday, August 29th thanks to the donors of the Save Me A Place Capital Campaign!  Historic Columbus is inviting the public and the media to a news conference on Thursday, August 29th at 10:00am at the Rankin House (1440 Second Avenue).  

 

There are numerous (non-profit or government owned) historic structures in our community that are in need of renovation work (i.e. historic churches, community buildings, theatres, and schools). The purpose of the grant is to provide needed funds and to ask the finalists to share their project, talk about the history of their site, and to create enthusiasm about historic preservation. 

 

Grants ranging from $10,000 up to $100,000 will be awarded to projects that will preserve, rehabilitate, restore, or increase accessibility to historic properties in the Muscogee County area.  An initial screening of project proposals was conducted and those qualifying have been selected as a finalist to move forward in the grant process.  It is those finalists that will be announced at this Press Conference. 

 

As a part of being selected as a finalist, the historic sites will host an Open House at their site.  This will give the public an opportunity to visit their site and see their needs.  Then, the public will vote on their favorite project!

September 13 –  September 20: Public voting

October 22:  Grant Winner announced at Historic Columbus’ Annual Meeting
