Historic Columbus’ 7th annual Preservation for Profit

Columbus, GA:  Preservation for Profit is a preservation focused seminar in its seventh year hosted by Historic Columbus and the Coalition for Sound Growth. The half day event will feature four speakers from Atlanta, Miami, and Columbus. This year, the program will be held at the W.C. Bradley Company (1017 Front Ave), May 21, 2015 from 8:00am-1:30pm.

Our opening speaker will be Steve Mouzon of Mouzon Design in Miami, FL.  Steve is best known for his work relating the sustainability movement with historic preservation.  His book, The Original Green, focuses on common sense and plain spoken practices to justify the cause.  Mr. Mouzon will be presenting on the links between the “green/sustainable” movement and repurposing or recycling historic buildings.

To continue the discussion on sustainability and good practices, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation President and CEO Mark McDonald will be presenting with Southface, an Atlanta based building consultant, on their combined work to develop a historic building certification program centered on efficiency.  Josh Adams, a local firefighter in Columbus, will speak about his recently constructed home in Ellerslie, GA.  The house, built by renowned brick mason Clay Chapman is designed to last 1,000 years.  The property was recently featured in The April issue of Columbus and the Valley Magazine.

Our Keynote Luncheon Speaker is preservation architect and author Norman Askins. One of the most treasured architects in Atlanta, Mr. Askins will present some of his latest projects, as well as discuss challenges and new innovations for historic properties.
Continuing Education credits will be offered for architects, Realtors, and builders.

Tickets are $75 for the entire program and $25 for the luncheon.  The event will be held on Thursday, May 21st at the WC Bradley Company (1017 Front Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901)  For more information, please contact Justin Krieg at 706-322-0756, justin@historiccolumbus.com or visit our website at www.historiccolumbus.com.
