Marvelous Monarchs
Saturday, October 3rd, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Lily Classroom, Callaway Discovery Center
Spend a fun, informative morning learning about these amazing creatures: their astounding life cycle, flight and details of their migratory journey. Learn the perils these butterflies are facing in today’s world and how to help. Class includes a visit to the Day Butterfly Center outdoor garden for tips on how to attract Monarchs. Try catching and tagging Monarchs and why this is important. You’ll leave with lots of information and a butterfly garden plan.

Beginning Geocaching

Learn the ins and outs of this high-tech scavenger hunt. Using GPS units and clues to search for hidden treasures. Leave mementos, give others clues or even try to make it harder for the next searcher. Fun and challenging at the same time!

Whooooo’s in your Neighborhood?

Violet Classroom, Callaway Discovery Center
Explore the amazing world of owls including the habitats of Eastern Screech Owls, Barred Owls, and Great-horned Owls, and meet a living representative of each species. Learn how to make an area “owl-friendly” and to identify native owls by their calls. Assist in constructing an owl nest box and one lucky attendee will be able to take the finished product home. Recommended for ages 6 and above. Walking may be over uneven surfaces.

Archaeology in the Gardens
Saturday, October 17th, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Violet Classroom, Callaway Discovery Center
Come hike in a beautiful area with local archaeologists as guides and discover the collapsed ruins and abandoned artifacts of old farm houses. This hike will take a scenic route through a forest with century old trees and babbling brooks. This easy, one mile hike is suitable for ages 12 and older. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring drinking water and insect repellant.

Basket Weaving – Morning Mail Wall Basket

Discover the joy of basket weaving! This basket boasts a hand carved hardwood oak handle and is perfect for keeping keys, sunglasses, gloves and even mail handy! Weave the basket then use your individual creativity to embellish with natural materials. Suitable for weavers of all experience levels. All basketry materials supplied. Class limited to 6 participants.

Fresh Greenery Christmas Workshop

The wonderful scent of winter evergreens signals the holiday season and festivities are at hand. To prepare for the season, instruction, frames, mechanics, fresh greenery, berries, etc. will be provided. Take home with a delightful Christmas decoration to bring holiday cheer. Choose a wreath, centerpiece or door hanging.
