The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, voted USA Today’s Best Free Museum and named one of CNN Travel’s 12 Best Military Museums in the World, salutes American soldiers in a world‑class museum located just outside the gates of Fort Benning. It is the only major museum in the country dedicated to the American infantryman and preserves one of the nation’s most significant collections of military artifacts.
Its powerful message—that freedom is not free—has been shared with nearly three million visitors since the museum opened in June 2009.
The museum’s era galleries chronicle infantry involvement in conflicts dating back to the founding of the nation. Additional galleries highlight infantry training, Rangers, Officer Candidate School graduates, and Medal of Honor recipients. The museum’s signature attraction, The Last 100 Yards, takes visitors on an immersive journey through more than 240 years of infantry history.
Beyond the museum, the 155‑acre campus features two major memorials: a three‑quarter‑scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a memorial honoring the Global War on Terrorism, which includes the names of all those killed in the conflict since September 11, 2001, as well as a beam salvaged from the collapsed World Trade Center.
Additional features on the museum’s campus include:
