The weather outside is still frightful with cold January weather. It might be easy to just shut it down and stay home. But, why not get cozy and warm with a winter weekend of great food, a show, and some of the best museums and shopping in the Deep South! Make sure to visit one of our fantastic restaurants where world class chefs and creative cooks put together meals that will make your mouth water! And, after your meal, stroll over to Iron Bank Coffee for one of the best local coffee shops around! On a Saturday, visit the Coca-Cola Space Science Center! If you love space exploration, this interactive museum is a great place to visit! There are many options that will make your visit to Columbus convenient and comfortable - and we have lodging for every price range with all kinds of amenities, luxuries, and conveniences! We spend a lot time on this blog talking about upcoming events and letting you know what is going on in Columbus. It is alway something! All of the wrapping paper is put away, the tree is growing brittle, the cookies and egg nog have been consumed (too much so), family and guests have gone home (or not), and the family is growing restless. What do you do in the last days of the year that are short, cold, and often aimless? Columbus has some options for you! If you live in the Mid-South area, Columbus is just a bit over an hour’s drive from Montgomery and Atlanta. It makes for a perfect place for an overnight trip to visit military and history museums, take nature hikes, bike rides, walking tours, eat at great restaurants, catch a Broadway quality show, and explore the history and scenery of the Chattahoochee River Valley. Take a local historic sightseeing tour that explores Columbus from many different angles. Or, plan a trip to the “Fantasy in Lights” at the incredible, beautiful, nearby Callaway Gardens and stay in Columbus as a home base. Visit the Smithsonian quality National Infantry Museum and the National Civil War Naval Museum . There is so much to do! As the year winds down and you draw close to family, why not plan an adventure? An excursion to Columbus to explore, learn, eat great food, see amazing things, laugh, and play together?

Schultz, has warmed the hearts of millions of fans since it first aired on television over fifty years ago. Now the classic animated television special comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation featuring all of your favorite characters and classic Vince Guaraldi score. Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts gang as they mount a play, save a tree, and uncover the true meaning of Christmas. Half-priced tickets for children under age 12. As you do all of this with family, your spouse, or friends, think about what really most, what lasts, and what can be treasured and celebrated with deep meaning during this special time of year!

The time between Thanksgiving and the New Year is spent with Holiday fun, food, family, and plenty of festivities! Did you know that Columbus has all of that available to enjoy? Every weekend of the season has great food, music, festivities, plays and shows, exhibits, and so much more! Let’s take a look at what just one upcoming holiday weekend has to offer! We kick off the Christmas season with the Broadway Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting on December 1st from 6:30-8:30 pm! There will be decorated Christmas trees lining Broadway and a lot more: Christmas lovers rejoice as Santa is escorted in by his entourage, including special guest appearances from Santa, the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, and Mayor Teresa Tomlinson Sing along to traditional Christmas carols at the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and play in the SNOW! There will be hot chocolate, candy canes and lots of fun for the entire family. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday attire and to bring their camera to partake in the many photo opportunities! Over the weekend of December 1st - 3rd in Columbus, you can see the Broadway musical, Newsies, at the Springer Opera House or Fancy Nancy’s Splendiferous Christmas or attend the CSU Broadway Ball all on Friday night! Then, you can enjoy shopping at an outdoor holiday market on Saturday morning at Market Days on Broadway. After that, fill your afternoon with wonder at a Victorian Christmas Open House at the National Civil War Museum and a One Hour Sightseeing Tour of the local attractions. End the evening with a great meal at one of our fabulous Uptown restaurants! That is just one of our weekends over the holiday season! Of course, we have amazing places to shop and experience holiday fun, great restaurants to eat at, places to get treats, and it will all be decorated beautifully for Christmas! From now until January 6th, Callaway has over 8 million lights and 15 displays as well as a Christmas Village, dining options, breakfast and dinner shows, and all kinds of other holiday activities. A visit to Callaway Gardens is a perfect way to spend a holiday weekend! Spend the weekend in Columbus as we host the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival over Veteran’s Day Weekend! Don’t you love street food? Food trucks? Those amazing little set ups with amazing offerings outside where you can see and smell what’s cooking? Imagine a street fair full of outdoor mobile kitchens ready for you to walk by and take a taste! That’s what will be available for the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival in Columbus on November 11th from 11am - 5pm. Uptown Columbus & Atlanta Street Food Coalition will host the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival in Columbus, Georgia. Join us on November 11th from 11am - 5pm as Woodruff Park and Dillingham Bridge transform into a Food Truck Mecca. 25 GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS will set up in our backyard with DJ Dave Arwood playing jams all afternoon! The full list of trucks to come soon, as well as libations in our craft beer garden! Admission cost $5 per person; children 12 and younger are free. Please bring $5 CASH to the gate. Again, CASH ONLY. With dozens of restaurants represented, this will be one of the tastiest events of the year! Come enjoy the long Veteran’s Day weekend in Columbus and plan a visit to the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning as well as many of the other attractions in the area. Take in a show on Saturday evening at Springer Theater or enjoy the cool evening a walk along Broadway Uptown. With great food, music, museums, theater, and so much else to do, Columbus provides the perfect getaway for you to “go all out” and enjoy the weekend!

With the weather cooling off a bit in the Fall, this is the best time of year in the South for outdoor fun, adventure, and exploring. Recently, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer listed “Seven activities in Columbus that will get your adrenaline pumping.” That’s a great way to plan a weekend, isn’t it? Did you know that off the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Columbus, GA, there’s one of the Top 12 Man-Made Adventures in the World? That adventure is called Whitewater Columbus, GA, and it’s the longest urban whitewater rafting course in the world. It’s been described as “wild as the Colorado River, and warm as Costa Rica!” Intrigued yet?
