Columbus has a St. Patrick’s Day full of things to do that will leave you feeling the luck of the Irish. Whether it be shaving it all off for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, grabbing a pint at Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub & Eatery, heel clicking past the finish line in true leprechaun style in the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race, or doing an Irish jig out on Broadway while enjoying the outdoor band concerts, you are bound to have a shamROCKIN’ time! St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, with events lasting all evening inviting guests to grab their green, get out and have some fun! Columbus will help you with that by doing what we do best and throwing a street party at the 1000 block of Broadway! Uptown Columbus & Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub & Eatery are shutting down Broadway & painting it green! Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day so come out and join in the fun! All the events are FREE and family friendly! Activities start Saturday March 17 at 3:00 pm and last until 10:00 pm, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start the party early! Head down to Scruffy Murphy’s Pub & Eatery and enjoy authentic Irish pub food with a fresh pint of your favorite beer. Before you know it, at 3:00 pm PMB Broadcasting, LLC will be jamming out to some Irish beats until 3:30 pm when Celtic/Irish dancers will take the stage. Once the dancers have showed us how it is done St. Baldrick’s Foundation will be shaving heads for charity that funds childhood cancer at 4:00 pm, and after that Music starts at 5:00 pm with the locally grown Irish/Celtic/Folk band Wolf & Clover. At 6:30 pm the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race starts, then at 7:00 pm music kicks back up with The Ragbirds, a band originating from Michigan who bring something new to the realm of folk/roots music. Make a weekend of it and stay in Columbus. Go All Out for Valentine’s Day and Weekends What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? It falls on a Tuesday this year, so many couples make plans for the weekend before or the weekend after. Columbus has opportunities available for romantic evenings of fine dining, music, walks along Broadway and the Riverwalk, taking in a play or musical, spending time at a coffee shop or getting ice cream in buildings over a century old, and just taking in the atmosphere. From museums to outdoor activities to everything that gives you a chance to relax, relate, and have fun together, Columbus is the perfect weekend getaway for couples. And, if you still don’t have Valentine’s Day plans, give your significant other a card that says you’re going to Columbus next weekend! We’ll set you up with plenty to do! On Valentine’s Day itself, visit the River Center for the Performing Arts and their presentation of Let It Be: A Celebration of the Music of the Beatles at 7:30pm. Relive The Beatles’ meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, through the heights of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces, with live performances of early tracks including Twist and Shout, She Loves You and Drive My Car, as well as global mega-hits Yesterday, Hey Jude, Come Together and, of course, Let It Be. Travel back to the magical Sixties when all you needed was love, and a little help from your friends! That night, or the next weekend, plan a dinner at 11th and Bay Southern Table or Epic Restaurant with Chef Jamie Keating. They are taking reservations for Valentine’s Day now! Columbus has many other great restaurants, coffee shops, music clubs, hotels, museums, and great neighborhoods to explore. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day or weekend than with a visit to a new city to explore all it has to offer?

Autumn. Fall. Whatever you call this time of year, it conjurs up images of cooler days, getting outside and just enjoying life. This is also the time of year when outdoor activities really ramp up because the tempurature and humidity have both dipped way below 100 on their respective scales. I know we're only hours into this new season, but if you'll check the Event Calendar, you'll see that we're not wasting any time kicking off the Fall fun. It may be a little early in the week, but indulge me...as a lover of all things autumnal, I wanted to give you a head's-up on a few things you might want to work into your weekend itinerary. There's no better way to start the weekend than by throwing your lawn chair into your car and heading to the 1000 block of Broadway after work on Friday for one of Uptown's Friday Night Concerts--this week featuring The Rock Candy Band. It's worth another visit to Uptown Saturday morning for Market Days on Broadway. You never know what you might find...art, unbelievably delicious baked goods (please let the lady with the blueberry scones be there!), live music, and this is a great time of year to pick up some local, fresh veggies. And since you'll be in the neighborhood, you have to stop in and indulge at the Uptown Beer & Wine Festival from 1:00-5:00 Saturday. There's another festival going on all day Saturday called JunkFest Returns and this one has a little bit of everything including Hula-Hooping! There's also Jazz on the River on the lawn behind the Civic Center Sunday evening. And if you're in the mood for a quick road trip, load The Rock, GA into your GPS (it's near Thomaston) and spend the day at The Rock Ranch as they kick off their Fall Family Fun Days. Two words for this event..."Pumpkin Cannon." I am so there to see that! See what I mean about there being a lot going on this weekend? Time to start planning for some fun in your life!

After being cooped up for a few days this past week...thank you, Mother Nature...it's time to get out of the house, get some fresh air and have a little fun! Lots going on this weekend and it looks like decent, more South-like temperatures, so let's enjoy it while we can. Great way to kick off the weekend is a stop at Market Days on Broadway in Uptown Columbus. There's always a place to get a steaming cup of coffee and lots of choices for some fresh baked goodies for breakfast to nibble on while you stroll the sidewalks and find all sorts of treasures. And if you're in the mood for some theatre this weekend, you're definitely in luck because there are several offerings with a little something for everyone. There's a production of "Stop Kiss" at Riverside Theatre Complex, "Meet the Browns" will be showing at the Columbus Civic Center, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts has "Bring It On: The Musical," and it's the final weekend for the stellar production of "A Raisin in the Sun" at the Springer Opera House. There's a lot of good stuff going on this weekend. Don't forget to check out the Event Calendar to get the full scoop on what's happening!
