Got Adventure? Columbus Does, And Lots of It. At Uptown’s RiverFest, You Can Learn and Experience It All

Come enjoy a weekend full of outdoor activities, music, and food to celebrate the start of the 2018 Whitewater Season in Columbus, Georgia!     To kick off the 2018 Columbus, GA Whitewater Season, Uptown Columbus is hosting RiverFest Weekend presented by Salt Life.   This weekend-long event will take place on May 4-6, 2018. Events will be held in Woodruff Park and along the RiverWalk in Uptown Columbus and Phenix City, AL.    Dates and Times: Friday, May 4th from 6:00pm-10:30pm Saturday, May 5th from 9am-tbd Sunday, May 6th from 10am-tbd   Every day of the event will consist of a variety of things to do, from striking your best yoga pose in SUP Yoga, running in the Salt Life Columbus Cup, to rafting down the river and soaring high on the Zipline. One thing is for sure, you are in for an AMAZING adventure in the beautiful outdoors of Columbus, Georgia!   Along with all the outdoor events, there will be LIVE music playing on Friday night starting at 7:30pm and all afternoon Saturday! So, bring your family, friends, dogs and chairs, and have a great weekend in Uptown. As always, admission if FREE all weekend.   Get excited, because this year The Goldens’ Cast Iron BBQ Cook-Off sanctioned by Georgia BBQ association will host pit-master’s from all over the region to come and give us the best barbecue that they have.  So, stop by and see the competition fire up and get steamy. Along with barbeque, there will be food trucks set up by noon so you will be able to try a variety of foods along with incredible barbecue!   Make a weekend of it and come spend some time in Columbus, Georgia where the tea is sweet, and the people are sweeter. There is a whole weekend full of events and a beautiful town waiting to be discovered. Jump on in to all the Fun at Paddle South

Get ready for a weekend full of music, kayaks, water and fun in Columbus, Georgia! This April 14th and 15th, Columbus GA Whitewater will be hosting Paddle South, a celebration of the best paddling location in the south. This event will take place in the Chattahoochee River at The Island, near the Eagle & Phenix water tower at 12th Street and Front Avenue. The two days will consist of the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships, and the Omaha Brewing Paddle Party in the Power House overlooking the Chattahoochee River. Saturday morning (April 14th), the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships will start the weekend’s festivities. Kayakers from all over the country will compete for the national title in Columbus, Ga Whitewater’s Good Wave, located in front of the RiverWalk Island. The competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night. This event is FREE entry, families and pets are welcome, so come out and experience how kayakers go head to head in competition. Along with the competition on Saturday, the Omaha Brewing Company Paddle Party will be the first EVER event taking place on the Powerhouse lawn, which is the big grassy space right next to where all the action will take place on the Chattahoochee River.   Paddle Party Ticket Includes: - Exclusive Entry to Powerhouse (21+ Only) - Official Paddle South Silipint - (1) 12oz Omaha Brew or Soft Drink - Breathtaking Views of the Chattahoochee - Entry to the Official After Party at The Loft   On top of all of that, there will be live music presented by The Loft all day long, from 2 p.m.-10 p.m.  DJ O3 will be spinning the best tunes beginning at 2 p.m., then at 6 p.m. get ready to watch a beautiful sunset on the Hooch while dancing the night away with live music from Blackberry Possum. This band, from Auburn, Alabama, plays a mix of Bluegrass, Newgrass and Country. Grab a ticket and join the party for some cold brews, live music, and BIG waves!                                                           Tickets to the Paddle Party will be $25 and you must be 21 and over to enter with a valid ID. Don’t go home straight way, the night doesn’t end just yet! Right after the Paddle Party, come to The Loft for the official Paddle South After Party. Limited to 250 tickets, so act fast and come join in on all the fun. (entry is included with Paddle Party ticket) On Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., the competition will continue on the river and end around 6:00 p.m. A brief awards ceremony will be held at the Power House as the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Champions are crowned. Make a weekend of it and enjoy all the events that are planned. Along with Paddle South, the Southern Lovin' Junkin’ Show will be happening at the Convention & Trade Center, and Creative South will be in full swing. You can have a weekend full of kayaks, shopping, and creativity. There is so much to do in Columbus, Georgia and the weather continues to get warmer, which us southerners are thankful for. Go All Out Food at Uptown's Spring Food Truck Festival!

March 21, 2018

Get ready to try an abundance of different foods this Saturday, March 24th for the fourth annual Uptown's Spring Food Truck Festival in Columbus, Georgia. The event starts at 11am until 6pm on Saturday, so come on out and see Woodruff Park and Dillingham Bridge transform into a Food Truck Mecca.  There will over 20 GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS that will set up in our backyard with DJ Dave Arwood playing jams all afternoon. You'll be able to enjoy the sunny and 75 degree weather with family, friends, and even the dog. Food taste better less burned, so don't forget the sunscreen!  You're in for a delicious weekend filled with great music and even better food!          Admission cost $5 per person; children 12 and younger are free. Please bring $5 CASH to the gate. Again, CASH ONLY.  Credit cards and cash will be accepted by the vendors.  I know, I know. Why give a cover charge when you will be paying for food?! Your money will be going towards operational costs to run the event (table, chairs, tents, entertainment, lighting, sound, power, marketing, fencing, etc.) AND fundraising for Uptown's year-round programming. Revenue earned will go directly back into bringing Columbus more FREE events such as RiverFest, the Big To-Do Friday Night Concert Series, Spooktacular, Broadway Holiday and so many more.  Table and chairs will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own too. If you do bring your own chair, we ask that it be collapsible, tailgate style chairs. No reclining lawn chairs. NO outside coolers.  Come one, come all and enjoy the beautiful spring weather that Columbus, Georgia has to offer. Reuse and Repurpose For the Love of Junk, at The Southern Lovin’ Junkin’ Show!

Looking to spruce up a room, or add something unique to a part of your house? The Southern Lovin' Junkin’ Show is coming to Columbus, Georgia April 13-15, 2018 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.   This vintage and handmade market will have antiques, repurposed, one-of-a-kind finds that you will cherish forever. Not only will you be able to find awesome pieces of furniture for your living spaces, but Friday April 13th from 5pm-9pm, the VIP Southern Lovin’ Late Night takes place where you will get three day access to the event, be entertained by live entertainment while you shop that night, along with food and beverages.   Day two, on April 14th, will start at 10am and go until 6pm. New finds will be for sale on this day, so if you can't make it on Friday you'll have a fresh start on Saturday to find the perfect piece.   Day three begins at 12pm and lasts until 5pm. This will be your final chance to find great deals on unique items. Since it is the last day, you may get lucky and make a purchase for less money than was ticketed for, but keep in mind that many furniture pieces are first come first serve in limited quantities.  Sunday will be your final opportunity to steal a bargain on an awesome antique or one-of-a-kind find.   Admission is $10 Friday April 13th for a VIP ticket, and $5 gets you in Saturday and Sunday.  Children 12 & under are admitted FREE.   While you are here in Columbus, GA, stay a while and enjoy the other events we have going on that weekend.  Friday April 13th Columbus will have a Friday Night Concert on Broadway starting at 7pm until 10pm, and Saturday April 14th, Paddle South, the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships and the Omaha Brewing Paddle Party in the Power House overlooking the Chattahoochee River, will be going on this same weekend.   You can’t miss out on everything going on, so why not make a weekend of it!  Come enjoy the beautiful southern weather, watch how intense freestyle kayaking is, go hunting for antiques, and spend a nice evening in Uptown indulging in some of the amazing food Columbus, GA has to offer.   You won’t regret it!

Columbus Goes All Out Green for St. Patrick’s Day Weekend!

Columbus has a St. Patrick’s Day full of things to do that will leave you feeling the luck of the Irish. Whether it be shaving it all off for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, grabbing a pint at Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub & Eatery, heel clicking past the finish line in true leprechaun style in the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race, or doing an Irish jig out on Broadway while enjoying the outdoor band concerts, you are bound to have a shamROCKIN’ time!   St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, with events lasting all evening inviting guests to grab their green, get out and have some fun! Columbus will help you with that by doing what we do best and throwing a street party at the 1000 block of Broadway!   Uptown Columbus & Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub & Eatery are shutting down Broadway & painting it green! Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day so come out and join in the fun!   All the events are FREE and family friendly!   Activities start Saturday March 17 at 3:00 pm and last until 10:00 pm, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start the party early! Head down to Scruffy Murphy’s Pub & Eatery and enjoy authentic Irish pub food with a fresh pint of your favorite beer. Before you know it, at 3:00 pm PMB Broadcasting, LLC will be jamming out to some Irish beats until 3:30 pm when Celtic/Irish dancers will take the stage. Once the dancers have showed us how it is done St. Baldrick’s Foundation will be shaving heads for charity that funds childhood cancer at 4:00 pm, and after that Music starts at 5:00 pm with the locally grown Irish/Celtic/Folk band Wolf & Clover. At 6:30 pm the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race starts, then at 7:00 pm music kicks back up with The Ragbirds, a band originating from Michigan who bring something new to the realm of folk/roots music.   Make a weekend of it and stay in Columbus. Then, visit our world-class museums, go white water rafting, eat at great restaurants, shop, and partake in as many adventures as you can fit in the weekend! Calling All Super Heroes! And Super Hero Fans!

Our family will, from time to time, sit around the table (especially after having seen the latest Marvel or DC movie) and will talk about what it would be like to actually BE a super hero. Saturdays in Columbus? Yes!

What are you doing this Saturday? What are you doing this weekend? How often do you think about that early in the week when you don’t have other plans already nailed down? Columbus has a weekend vacation alternative for you during the Winter months that might be surprising. Come on a Friday night and take in a great dinner or a show at one of our local theaters. Do some shopping at our malls and retail stores, or do window shopping with a stroll down Broadway.   Then, on Saturday morning, visit Market Days on Broadway, our year-round Saturday morning craft and farmer’s market. Encompassing several blocks, you will find all kinds of things to look at, buy, and bring home! Schedule a local historical and sightseeing tour. Visit one of our great museums. Take a walk along the Riverwalk and the Chattahoochee River. Enjoy a bike ride and some great outdoor fun!   There is absolutely no reason to sit at home on a weekend in the Winter when Columbus is nearby and offers adventure, fun, beauty, access to the outdoor experiences and indoor learning, great food, markets and shopping, music, and so much more! At the End of the Year, Explore Columbus In the Week Between Christmas and New Year’s Day!

All of the wrapping paper is put away, the tree is growing brittle, the cookies and egg nog have been consumed (too much so), family and guests have gone home (or not), and the family is growing restless. What do you do in the last days of the year that are short, cold, and often aimless? Visit the Smithsonian quality National Infantry Museum and the National Civil War Naval Museum .
