Get ready for a weekend full of music, kayaks, water and fun in Columbus, Georgia! This April 14th and 15th, Columbus GA Whitewater will be hosting Paddle South, a celebration of the best paddling location in the south. This event will take place in the Chattahoochee River at The Island, near the Eagle & Phenix water tower at 12th Street and Front Avenue. The two days will consist of the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships, and the Omaha Brewing Paddle Party in the Power House overlooking the Chattahoochee River. Saturday morning (April 14th), the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships will start the weekend’s festivities. Kayakers from all over the country will compete for the national title in Columbus, Ga Whitewater’s Good Wave, located in front of the RiverWalk Island. The competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night. This event is FREE entry, families and pets are welcome, so come out and experience how kayakers go head to head in competition. Along with the competition on Saturday, the Omaha Brewing Company Paddle Party will be the first EVER event taking place on the Powerhouse lawn, which is the big grassy space right next to where all the action will take place on the Chattahoochee River. Paddle Party Ticket Includes: - Exclusive Entry to Powerhouse (21+ Only) - Official Paddle South Silipint - (1) 12oz Omaha Brew or Soft Drink - Breathtaking Views of the Chattahoochee - Entry to the Official After Party at The Loft On top of all of that, there will be live music presented by The Loft all day long, from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. DJ O3 will be spinning the best tunes beginning at 2 p.m., then at 6 p.m. get ready to watch a beautiful sunset on the Hooch while dancing the night away with live music from Blackberry Possum. This band, from Auburn, Alabama, plays a mix of Bluegrass, Newgrass and Country. Grab a ticket and join the party for some cold brews, live music, and BIG waves! Tickets to the Paddle Party will be $25 and you must be 21 and over to enter with a valid ID. Don’t go home straight way, the night doesn’t end just yet! Right after the Paddle Party, come to The Loft for the official Paddle South After Party. Limited to 250 tickets, so act fast and come join in on all the fun. (entry is included with Paddle Party ticket) On Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., the competition will continue on the river and end around 6:00 p.m. A brief awards ceremony will be held at the Power House as the 2018 USA Freestyle Kayak National Champions are crowned. Make a weekend of it and enjoy all the events that are planned. Along with Paddle South, the Southern Lovin' Junkin’ Show will be happening at the Convention & Trade Center, and Creative South will be in full swing. You can have a weekend full of kayaks, shopping, and creativity. There is so much to do in Columbus, Georgia and the weather continues to get warmer, which us southerners are thankful for. Get ready to try an abundance of different foods this Saturday, March 24th for the fourth annual Uptown's Spring Food Truck Festival in Columbus, Georgia. The event starts at 11am until 6pm on Saturday, so come on out and see Woodruff Park and Dillingham Bridge transform into a Food Truck Mecca. There will over 20 GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS that will set up in our backyard with DJ Dave Arwood playing jams all afternoon. You'll be able to enjoy the sunny and 75 degree weather with family, friends, and even the dog. Food taste better less burned, so don't forget the sunscreen! You're in for a delicious weekend filled with great music and even better food! Admission cost $5 per person; children 12 and younger are free. Please bring $5 CASH to the gate. Again, CASH ONLY. Credit cards and cash will be accepted by the vendors. I know, I know. Why give a cover charge when you will be paying for food?! Your money will be going towards operational costs to run the event (table, chairs, tents, entertainment, lighting, sound, power, marketing, fencing, etc.) AND fundraising for Uptown's year-round programming. Revenue earned will go directly back into bringing Columbus more FREE events such as RiverFest, the Big To-Do Friday Night Concert Series, Spooktacular, Broadway Holiday and so many more. Table and chairs will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own too. If you do bring your own chair, we ask that it be collapsible, tailgate style chairs. No reclining lawn chairs. NO outside coolers. Come one, come all and enjoy the beautiful spring weather that Columbus, Georgia has to offer. While your at the festival, walk down to the RiverWalk and experience a night in Uptown. I can't think of a better way to start the season off! Spring is here, it's when the flowers start blooming and the concerts start playing! Uptown’s Spring Friday Night Concert Series will be in full swing on April 6. Columbus, Georgia is putting its best foot forward with nature’s beauty along the Chattahoochee. Beautiful gardens, nice evening walks, great food, music, art, and so much more. One of the best kept secrets in the Deep South is a weekend in the classic Southern city of Columbus where old, new, and adventure all merge together. Come for Uptown’s Spring Friday Night Concert Series with one great act after another guaranteeing that every weekend in the Spring will be full of great music, fun, and a chance to hang out with friends old and new. Uptowns' Spring Friday Night Concert Series is BACK! Starting April 6 there will be a concert every Friday night kicking off at 7:30 pm lasting until 10 pm. Columbus has a St. Patrick’s Day full of things to do that will leave you feeling the luck of the Irish. Whether it be shaving it all off for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, grabbing a pint at Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub & Eatery, heel clicking past the finish line in true leprechaun style in the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race, or doing an Irish jig out on Broadway while enjoying the outdoor band concerts, you are bound to have a shamROCKIN’ time! St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, with events lasting all evening inviting guests to grab their green, get out and have some fun! Columbus will help you with that by doing what we do best and throwing a street party at the 1000 block of Broadway! Uptown Columbus & Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub & Eatery are shutting down Broadway & painting it green! Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day so come out and join in the fun! All the events are FREE and family friendly! Activities start Saturday March 17 at 3:00 pm and last until 10:00 pm, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start the party early! Head down to Scruffy Murphy’s Pub & Eatery and enjoy authentic Irish pub food with a fresh pint of your favorite beer. Before you know it, at 3:00 pm PMB Broadcasting, LLC will be jamming out to some Irish beats until 3:30 pm when Celtic/Irish dancers will take the stage. Once the dancers have showed us how it is done St. Baldrick’s Foundation will be shaving heads for charity that funds childhood cancer at 4:00 pm, and after that Music starts at 5:00 pm with the locally grown Irish/Celtic/Folk band Wolf & Clover. At 6:30 pm the Big Dog Fleet Feet St. Paddy’s 5k race starts, then at 7:00 pm music kicks back up with The Ragbirds, a band originating from Michigan who bring something new to the realm of folk/roots music. Make a weekend of it and stay in Columbus. Then, visit our world-class museums, go white water rafting, eat at great restaurants, shop, and partake in as many adventures as you can fit in the weekend! What are you doing this Saturday? What are you doing this weekend? How often do you think about that early in the week when you don’t have other plans already nailed down? Columbus has a weekend vacation alternative for you during the Winter months that might be surprising. Come on a Friday night and take in a great dinner or a show at one of our local theaters. Do some shopping at our malls and retail stores, or do window shopping with a stroll down Broadway. Then, on Saturday morning, visit Market Days on Broadway, our year-round Saturday morning craft and farmer’s market. Encompassing several blocks, you will find all kinds of things to look at, buy, and bring home! Schedule a local historical and sightseeing tour. Visit one of our great museums. Take a walk along the Riverwalk and the Chattahoochee River. Enjoy a bike ride and some great outdoor fun! There is absolutely no reason to sit at home on a weekend in the Winter when Columbus is nearby and offers adventure, fun, beauty, access to the outdoor experiences and indoor learning, great food, markets and shopping, music, and so much more! The time between Thanksgiving and the New Year is spent with Holiday fun, food, family, and plenty of festivities! Did you know that Columbus has all of that available to enjoy? Every weekend of the season has great food, music, festivities, plays and shows, exhibits, and so much more! Let’s take a look at what just one upcoming holiday weekend has to offer! We kick off the Christmas season with the Broadway Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting on December 1st from 6:30-8:30 pm! There will be decorated Christmas trees lining Broadway and a lot more: Christmas lovers rejoice as Santa is escorted in by his entourage, including special guest appearances from Santa, the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, and Mayor Teresa Tomlinson Sing along to traditional Christmas carols at the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and play in the SNOW! There will be hot chocolate, candy canes and lots of fun for the entire family. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday attire and to bring their camera to partake in the many photo opportunities! Over the weekend of December 1st - 3rd in Columbus, you can see the Broadway musical, Newsies, at the Springer Opera House or Fancy Nancy’s Splendiferous Christmas or attend the CSU Broadway Ball all on Friday night! Then, you can enjoy shopping at an outdoor holiday market on Saturday morning at Market Days on Broadway. After that, fill your afternoon with wonder at a Victorian Christmas Open House at the National Civil War Museum and a One Hour Sightseeing Tour of the local attractions. End the evening with a great meal at one of our fabulous Uptown restaurants! That is just one of our weekends over the holiday season! Of course, we have amazing places to shop and experience holiday fun, great restaurants to eat at, places to get treats, and it will all be decorated beautifully for Christmas! Spend the weekend in Columbus as we host the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival over Veteran’s Day Weekend! Don’t you love street food? Food trucks? Those amazing little set ups with amazing offerings outside where you can see and smell what’s cooking? Imagine a street fair full of outdoor mobile kitchens ready for you to walk by and take a taste! That’s what will be available for the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival in Columbus on November 11th from 11am - 5pm. Uptown Columbus & Atlanta Street Food Coalition will host the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival in Columbus, Georgia. Join us on November 11th from 11am - 5pm as Woodruff Park and Dillingham Bridge transform into a Food Truck Mecca. 25 GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS will set up in our backyard with DJ Dave Arwood playing jams all afternoon! Again, CASH ONLY. With dozens of restaurants represented, this will be one of the tastiest events of the year! Come enjoy the long Veteran’s Day weekend in Columbus and plan a visit to the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning as well as many of the other attractions in the area. Take in a show on Saturday evening at Springer Theater or enjoy the cool evening a walk along Broadway Uptown. With great food, music, museums, theater, and so much else to do, Columbus provides the perfect getaway for you to “go all out” and enjoy the weekend!
