Bring on the Summer Fun!

It's the unofficial kick-off to Summer, so it's time to make plans now for a fun-filled Memorial Day weekend! So what's going on? Here's just a sample of things going on and don't forget to visit the Community Calendar for a full listing of events.

It’s hard to believe, but this is the last concert of the season coming up Friday night (May 28)! The crowds have been incredible, but nothing will compare to the crowd that will be on Broadway Friday night because it’s the return of Scott Ressmeyer and his motorcycle ‘gang’ who are slated to return after their whirlwind motorcycle tour of the lower 48 states. This tour, of course, has been is a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network, with all the funds raised staying here at our very own Medical Center. And how appropriate is it that the band performing Friday night is called “DNR” (Do Not Resuscitate) and it’s comprised of a bunch of local doctors! Bring your lawn chair and come enjoy the show! This show is great for the whole family and will take place from 7:00-10:00pm in the 1100 block of Broadway. Admission is free but it isn't too late to make a donation. 706.596.0111 http://rideformiracles.wordpress.com/

This only happens once or twice a year, but this weekend is your chance to swim in the historic pools built by President Franklin Roosevelt as a place for therapy for his polio. Normally these pools are kept empty for preservation, but the shallow pools will be filled with naturally warm spring water and folks who have actually been swimming in the pool say the water does have a real therapeutic effect…even making your hair feel like it has conditioner in it! Sessions, which begin at 10:00am each day, are 1.5 hours each and reservations are requested. Any remaining tickets will be sold first-come, first-serve. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Admission is $20 for adults and $12.50 for ages 6-17. 706.655.5870 www.georgiastateparks.org

There’s also Memorial Day fun at West Point Lake with their MusicFest going on May 28-31 and it includes music, a poker run, and fireworks. 706.523.2506
