Happy Birthday, America!  Let’s start the party this weekend!!

It only makes sense.  We really should celebrate this country more than one day a year, so I like the fact that the folks at Fort Moore are kicking off the fun this weekend.   There's a full roster of all sorts of events going on out there as part of the Fort Moore Independence Celebration, which cranked up a little earlier this afternoon (June 24) and runs Saturday (June 26) from 3:00pm-10:30pm.  Kids are going to love all the carnival rides include Flying Dutchman, Himalaya, Bumper Cars, Sea Ray, Surf Shack, Tornado,  Quad Runner, Tea Cups, Giant Slide, a Merry-Go-Round and lots more!  And don't forget about the rock climbing walls, slides and bounce houses.  For the really adventurous, you'll have a chance to jump from a training tower.  Of course, all that activity--or in my case, watching all that activity--is going to make you work up an appetite so they'll have lots of yummy food and drinks available for purchase.

Also look for a demonstration by the Silver Wings parachute team at 6:15 p.m. Saturday followed at 6:45 p.m. by a “Fries & Spies” Ranger tactical operations demonstration.  Another highlight on Saturday is lots of music including a performance from country singer Ruthie Collins. She'll be on-stage performing for about two hours beginning about 7:00pm.

But what's an Independence Celebration without fireworks?!  Prepare yourself for one of the biggest fireworks display in this entire area on Saturday night.  It really is pretty incredible.

It's goes without saying that it's going to be hot out there, so dress cool and you're even welcome to bring your own small canopy to provide some shade!
