Family Theatre Season Announcement

Columbus, GA--4.20.2017:  Family Theatre announces their 2017-2018 season. This new season marks the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the theatre by Anne Stumhofer. Anne saw the need for a theatre that would presenting family friendly productions and would allow students that were home schooled to have an opportunity to get theatrical experience. Adults were also encouraged to come and participate. For the first few years, the theatre moved around using various churches for their productions. In 2004, the theatre found a permanent space in the theatre annex at Rose Hill Baptist Church and has been doing productions on that stage ever since.

“We are very excited about this special anniversary season. The staff looked over productions which had been done at the theatre over the years and decided to bring back some past favorites and add some new additions for this season,” said Cheryl Palmour, the Artistic Director for Family Theatre. So without further adieu, here is the 2017-2018 season.

Opening the season is The Magician’s Nephew based on the prequel novel to the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. Our second show is The Secret Garden based on the popular children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Christmas show is Papa’s Angels adapted from the novella by Collin Wilcox Paxton. The Hiding Place which tells the true story of Corrie Ten Boom who was sent to a concentration camp for hiding Jews in Holland during World War II, is next. Henry and Ramona brings back the character of Ramona Quimby to the theatre. Driving Miss Daisy rides into Family Theatre in April and our closing production is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most loved production The Sound of Music. In November, there will be a special surprise production which will be announced later.

Auditions will soon be on the Family Theatre website at www.familytheatre.org where show dates are also listed. Season ticket information can also be found at the website.
