Black Heritage
Throughout the history of our city, African-Americans have played a significant role in the growth and development of this city. Along the way, the visitor will view a number of interesting and memorable scenes from the past and present. This brochure offers one an excellent opportunity to experience, understand and appreciate the rich legacy of citizens of African descent in Columbus.
Heritage of Heroes
Columbus has always been a part of military history — from its early days as a frontier town through the Civil War, to the war to end all wars and even today as Ft. Benning prepares men and women to defend Democracy. We’ve provided abbreviated narration about Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum, the National Infantry Museum, and Andersonville. Retrace the footsteps of American military heroes.
Military History
The National Infantry Museum houses a collection of military memorabilia that traces the Infantryman from Revolutionary days to the present. This is a must see for the serious and amateur historian alike.
Walking Tours
Our “Original City Tour” Guide lays out the early Columbus much as those surveyors did in the early 1800s. This brochure traces the original city “grid” to include maps and significant sites and points-of-interest.

Harmony Church: Home of the 194th Armored Brigade and 316th Cavalry Brigade
In 2011, The Armor School moved from its home in Fort Knox, Kentucky to its new home at Fort Benning, Georgia. Tankers and Cavalrymen joined their Infantry brothers to establish the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
