Hard to believe 2009 is on its way out and we're welcoming 2010! So why not have some fun to ring in the new year? Here's a list of some things you can do to celebrate with family or that special someone.
Ring in the New Year in style at the Rivertown New Year's Eve Ball being held in the main ballroom of the Columbus Convention & Trade Center. Get out your fancy duds because this is a black tie formal open to all couples or singles. The Rivertown Ball brings to Columbus, for the first time, the Georgia Big Band. This 17-piece orchestra has performed across the South to rave reviews. The evening begins with dinner at 7:00 P.M., followed by the Ball at 8:30 P.M., a balloon drop at midnight, a champagne toast and party favors, and a continental breakfast. Intermissions will feature professional dance exhibitions and door prizes. A cash bar and portrait CDs will also be available. Tickets are $55 per person and you can call (706) 568.3958 or www.rivertownball.com to order tickets or get more information. Sounds like a fun night and a really good deal!
Bundle up and head to the Columbus Civic Center for some ice hockey excitement with the Columbus Cottonmouths. They have a home game on New Year's Day that begins at 7:30 P.M. The Snake Pit is the perfect place to start off the new year and a lot of fun for everyone in the family. Tickets range from $12-$22. If you'd like to find out more about the Cottonmouths, visit their website at www.cottonmouths.com or call (706) 571.0086.
If you'd rather be the one getting out on the ice, then lace up your skates and head back to the Columbus Civic Center because they'll have public ice skating going on January 2, 3, & 4 with 2 sessions each day... 2:00-3:30 P.M. and 4:30-6:00 P.M. each day. Admission is $7 and skate rental is $3, but of course you can bring your own skates. You can find more details at www.columbusciviccenter.org or you can call (706) 653.4482.
Here's a nice way to wrap up the holiday...take in a showing of the movie, "The Polar Express" on the giant IMAX screen at the National Infantry Museum. It's such a wonderful movie and this is the way it was meant to be seen...on the big screen and in 3-D! Shows are now thru January 3 (except for New Year's Day) at 12:00 P.M., 3:00 P.M., and 6:00 P.M. To get the scoop on ticket prices and other shows coming to the IMAX theater, call (706) 507.IMAX (4629) or www.patriotparkimax.com .
A great place to find out what's going on is the Columbus Community Calendar (www.columbusgacalendar.com ). It contains info on a variety of events happening in and around Columbus...it's a really good resource...check it out!
Hope you have a Safe and Happy New Year!
